Wycliffe College are proud to share the fantastic results achieved by a few of the girls in our Senior School in the Junior GB Rowing trials. After the first three assessments, all our girls gained personal bests at each stage putting them in a strong position for the upcoming Summer season.

Points gained so far put the girls in the following positions:

1st –  Grace

18th – Rachel

27th – Yasmin

37th – Stella

These results demonstrate the commitment and effort each one of the girls brings to the Sport and we are excited to see what the future holds for each of them.

What do the Junior Rowing Trials involve?

To be considered for the GB team, any enthusiastic Junior rower who is keen to be selected must take part in trials. Registration for 2021 opened in September 2020 and Wycliffe College rowers are currently taking part in a series of compulsory tests and assessments.

These tests include a series of land and water-based assessments whereby each Junior rower must meet certain criteria to then go on and be considered in the main team.

Find out more about what is involved in Junior Trials on the British Rowing website.

Sporting Opportunities at Wycliffe College

Sport is an integral part of the curriculum here at Wycliffe College. Pupils at our Senior School take part in three hours of Sport on a weekly basis while in 2020 as a minimum. We were recognised as being in the top 30 independent schools for sport – even placing higher than some other much larger schools.

Wycliffe College are keen to ensure Sport is a fixture in all pupil’s schedules as exercising has far-reaching benefits to both physical and mental health. We offer a range of Sports including traditional sports such as rugby and hockey to more unusual Sports such as Quidditch and Fencing as we believe in offering something for every pupil. This is turn encourages participation, inclusivity and ultimately happiness.

Our facilities for Sport include tennis courts, a fully equipped gymnasium and Astro-turf, while our Boat Club where our rowers train is located just 5 miles off campus. Athletes who have been recognised as performing at a regional or national level receive coaching from specialist coaches in sessions each week as well as taking part in talks and activities to support toning, conditioning and optimising nutrition.
