Home to up to 40 girls, both Day and Boarders, the Haywardsend motto is ‘be a flamingo in a flock of pigeons’. Through our supportive, tightknit community, each girl is encouraged to be the best version of themselves.
Meet the House Parent – Mrs Sian Evans
It’s a great privilege to run Haywardsend; having been a Boarder myself, I know the highs and lows of life in a busy Boarding House. Following school, I completed an undergraduate Degree in Art and Design and hold Master’s Degrees in both Fine Art and Education. I live in Haywardsend with my husband, Didi, our son, Haydn, and our two Cockapoos, Pablo and Frida. During the holiday I enjoy cooking, painting and walking the dogs.
How long have you been at Wycliffe?
This is my fourth years at Wycliffe. I joined in 2020, at the height of the pandemic.
What do you teach?
I teach Art and Life Skills. I am also the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the Senior School.
What are you most looking forward to this/next academic year?
The Summer Term at Wycliffe is fabulous, we’re lucky to be surrounded by beautiful grounds and pupils get to spend much of their time outside enjoying the sunshine. It’s hard not be in a good mood with such a happy buzz about the place.

About Haywardsend
Haywardsend is over 400 years old, meaning it was built at the same time William Shakespeare was alive. Over the years it’s had numerous purposes, including being a family home and a Clothiers, but it is now home to up to 26 Boarders and 15 Day pupils.
We are lucky enough to have two large Commons Rooms, both with beautiful old fireplaces, comfy sofas and televisions. We also have a piano for young pianists and a surround sound system for impromptu dancing and movie nights. The fully fitted kitchen is always a hive of activity where tea and toast is served at break times and the girls can cook at the weekends. Outside, we have a private back garden used to host BBQs, games and outdoor cinema nights.
There is a mix of triple, double and single Boarding rooms in Haywardsend, as well as Day rooms with desks for Day pupils. Boarders each have their own wardrobe space, desk, bedside table and bed with inbuilt draws. There are plenty of bathrooms throughout the House which are shared between the girls. It is the girl’s responsibility to keep their rooms tidy and room checks are carried out at random – if your space is lovely and tidy, however, you may find a little sweet treat waiting for you upon your return.
There is a duty office on the ground floor where you will find Mrs B or Mrs Robbins during the day or one of our duty staff in the evening. The office doors are always open, and girls are encouraged to come in and have a chat, a cup of tea or make a fuss of the dogs.
