For over 130 years, Wycliffe has supported the families and children of those serving in the British Armed Forces. Today 33% of our Boarders are from Forces Families, with the youngest in Year 3 at the Prep School. As a co-educational school for 3 to 19 year olds, we can look after your sons and daughters as they progress on their educational journey.

Eight reasons to choose Wycliffe for your family:

  • We truly want to support Forces families, so if you are in receipt of the CEA, you will only ever pay 10% of the academic and Boarding school fees – we will make up the difference.
  • If your child needs challenging – we are members of Potential Plus (formerly National Association for Gifted Children) – the UK’s foremost charity in supporting all aspects of giftedness in children.
  • If your child needs Learning Support – we have a dedicated Learning Support Centre on each campus to overcome barriers to learning. We are accredited by CReSTeD as category LSC for dyslexia.
  • Our Sport is inclusive and all pupils play Sport regularly each week and take part in fixtures. We support those who excel at Sport – there is an Elite Athletes’ Programme and access to county and regional clubs. In 2020, Wycliffe was placed 28th for sport out of UK Independent Schools (including some much bigger schools!) in the School Sport Magazine.
  • We have outstanding facilities with onsite swimming pool; rifle range; Astro-turfs (at the Prep and Senior campuses); Horse-riding stables and a Boathouse within five miles of campus; bespoke theatre spaces at both schools; and first-class boarding houses.

  • Many of the staff holding positions in Wycliffe have served in the Armed Forces, and three of the Trustees are serving or former Service personnel, including Major General Richard Clements, a former Old Wycliffian, who would be happy to answer any questions directly.
  • The Wycliffe network of HM Forces parents is a close group in regular contact with each other. We can put you in direct contact with them so you can ask questions about life at Wycliffe.
  • Prep Parents who serve in the HM Forces can join our HM Forces’s Parents’ Forum which meet termly at the Prep School with the Head. These are organised to be on a day when you are coming to pick up your son or daughter to make it as convenient as possible for you.

What does Wycliffe offer us as a military family? The obvious answer being, ‘Continuity of Education’ but they offer so much more. We are watching our children flourish as they grow and move up through the school. We can see they are happy, well adjusted and embracing the challenges on offer.

We believe Wycliffe is developing a strong work ethic, encouraging independence and providing our boys with a stable setting, which all helps towards them reaching their full potential.

The schools focuses on developing life skills, such as determination, resilience and the drive to succeed. They love the friendships they have made, Sport, Drama and expedition days. They access all the extra-curricular on offer.

Call for a chat or come and visit

We can organise a visit at any time (although we recommend term time when you can see the pupils in action), or you can come along to one of our Open Events.

Try Out Wycliffe

We can set up a Taster Day and Boarding Night for any year group, where your son or daughter can experience Boarding School life first-hand but under the guidance and friendship of a Wycliffe buddy from their age group.

Does my son or daughter have to leave school on Exeat weekends?

Each term, the Prep and Senior Schools have Exeat weekends, but all Boarders can stay at school if you would prefer them to, and this cost is included in the full fees (so you do not pay extra).

What if we move abroad?

Wherever you are posted in the world, you can be reassured that your son or daughter will be safe, cared for, and enjoying school life.

What if my son or daughter needs a medical appointment or a haircut?

Medical or similar appointments are arranged by the Housemaster, Housemistress or Matron in liaison with you, and a member of our staff will accompany your son or daughter to their appointment.

What if my son or daughter gets homesick?

We have over 100 year of experience in looking after the sons and daughters of parents who work in the HM Forces, and over 85 of our Boarders are from a Forces Family.

Who looks after my son or daughter outside of school time?

In each Boarding House there is a Housemaster or Housemistress who lives in accommodation attached to or next to the Boarding House, and they are there all evenings, weekends and at night. These staff are supported by House Tutors and Matrons who look after the pupils during the day and in evenings.
