Year 9 Entry at Wycliffe Senior School

Bees and Lavender

Year 9 is a key entry point into Wycliffe, whether it’s transferring from our Prep School or joining us from another school.

With pupils entering Year 9 from a wide range of schools and countries, we spend a lot of time during this year ensuring that all pupils both new and present thrive academically, socially, creatively and emotionally.

Every Pupil has access to their own Facilities

Every pupil, whether a Boarder or a Day pupil, is allocated a space in one of our eight Houses. Their House becomes their home from home during their time at School. It is a space where they can work and socialise, making firm friends. Day pupils have access to:

  • their own desk
  • shelves and cupboard
  • F=facilities to shower and change after sport
  • whilst lessons finish at 4.10pm, many of our pupils choose to take advantage of our extra-curricular activities and stay much later on campus until 8pm, with lots of activities each week on offer.

Each House has its own identity and fosters a strong sense of belonging. Many of our Year 12 and 13 pupils act as mentors to Year 9 pupils too.

Offering a Broad Curriculum, with over 20 GCSE Subjects

Year 9 is a pivotal year in our young people’s educational development. It is where they start to sample lots of subjects, so they can confidently decide which GCSE options to take for Year 10. At Wycliffe, we are small enough to care with a maximum of 18 pupils per class but large enough to deliver a wide range of subjects within our extensive facilities. With over 20 GCSE subjects to choose from, including Japanese and Computer Science, we tailor our learning approach to the individual.

Our pupils are taught to be creative and innovative in their thinking and have an independent approach to their learning, whilst developing their confidence and self-knowledge.

Enriching Pupils’ Experience

The Wycliffe experience is more than what happens in the classroom. We nurture mind, body and soul through our diverse Extra-Curricular programme. Pupils have the opportunity to broaden their horizons by trying new activities they haven’t done before or deepen their interests and skills in something they are passionate about.

With more than 60 activities on offer, from beekeeping and photography to DofE, CCF, Esports and Young Dragons, there is something for every pupil to try. In fact, if a group of pupils really want to take part in an activity that we don’t already offer, then we are happy to set it up for them. This is how our basketball club started, which has developed into a very successful sport at Wycliffe College within its own right.

We weave opportunities that our young people need to develop their skills as a future global citizen into both our Extra-Curricular programme and within our class-based learning. Leadership and what it takes to be a leader, looking after others and being part of a team are all essential aspects of life at Wycliffe school. As pupils move through Senior School, we encourage every individual to take on a role supporting others in pastoral, academic or sporting activities. Learning to be a responsible young adult that cares for others and their community is an important aspect of Wycliffe’s ethos.
