Against a back drop of falling top grades nationally, there was nonetheless much about which to be pleased at Wycliffe on A Level results day.
Not only did the proportion of top grades exceed expectations, the range of destinations to which Wycliffe pupils are now set to proceed is again hugely impressive, as is the performance of some who have battled significant personal and educational barriers to achieve their goals.
An indication of the range is shown by the results of Sophie Izon from Rodborough, Stroud (with AAB) who will study Veterinary Science at Surrey University, Hannah Denning (AAB) from Nailsworth, who will be reading Social Policy at Bath, and Lucy McKerrow (AAB) of Stroud, who is off to study Biomedical Science at Birmingham, where Daisy Hartson (AAB) from Standish will join her to study Psychology. Zakh Mamayev (A*AAB) from Kazakhstan is heading to Boston, USA to follow a degree in Computer Engineering whilst Sarah Zhou (A*A*A) from China will be heading north of the UK border to read History and Politics at Edinburgh.
BTEC results were truly exceptional with almost half of all grades in Sport, Digital Production and Business being awarded at the top Distinction* and Distinction. As a result of these, Kathryn Burton (with Double Distinction*, with an additional A Level grade B) from Thornbury has secured her place at Durham to study Sport Science, and Charlotte Robbins (Double Distinction*, B) from Nailsworth is off to Reading after Business and Management.
“This group of pupils had to contend with periods of ‘lockdown’ that affected the Summer of their Year 10 and the Spring of their Year 11. I am therefore so, so pleased that they now leave Wycliffe having enjoyed such full and varied two-year Sixth Form careers, excited about and enthused by what they are heading off to do next, from Degree courses in Medicine, Veterinary Science and Law (to name but a few), to professional Rugby contracts, Scholarships at Universities in the United States, a range of different Apprenticeships, and/or amazing ‘gap year’ projects.”
