We’re thrilled to announce the outstanding achievements of our squash teams at the National Schools Championships 2024. The players gave everything that they had to perform their very best.
Our Under 18 Boys team put on a dominant display, not dropping a single match throughout their three clashes. They defeated Eton College in the quarter-finals (5:0), King Edward’s in the semi-finals (5:0) and Millfield in the finals to Clinch the KS5 Boys’ title for gold.
The Under 16 Boys team also had an impressive run, winning the National KS4 title after an impressive battle with Epsom. They beat Portsmouth Grammar in the quarter-finals (5:0), Aylesbury Grammar in the semi-finals (5:0), and Epsom (4:1) in the finals.
Our Under 16 Girls fought valiantly to secure the bronze medal in the KS4 event after a hard-fought playoff against Kenilworth, which they won 3:2.
Congratulations to all our players who represented Wycliffe College in this prestigious event and a big thank you to England Squash and Tim Vail for organizing a fantastic championship.
Wycliffe Director of Squash Jonny Harford commented, “We have a fantastic squad, and I am so proud of every player, involved in the squash program. We’re incredibly proud of our teams’ performances and look forward to more squash successes in the future!
Pupils at Wycliffe College have a one-on-one individual session each week with the Director of Squash. Jonny played for England at the U19 level and represented Great Britain at the World University Championships. His highest PSA World Tour ranking was 59, and since retiring from the professional circuit, he has been Head coach at Wycliffe College for over ten years.
Our Assistant Coach is Zimbabwean Michelle Williams, who doubles as a squash and hockey player. She is the highest-ranked female squash hockey player in Southern Africa after completing a one-year-long level 3 England Squash course.
