Coach Tony, originally from Charlotte North Carolina, comes to Wycliffe with years of experience both as a player and as a coach. He previously played collegiately in the States and professionally in Europe, Tony also comes to Wycliffe highly qualified, whilst also having a history of building basketball programmes throughout the south-west of England.

The vision is to develop a pathway where every student involved in the programme is not only receiving high-level coaching and proper fundamentals, but also an overall insight on the sport and other aspects that are involved within the game.

Developing the Wycliffe Basketball Pathway

The Wycliffe Basketball programme continues to grow and develop into a pathway where pupils now begin training in the Prep School, learning the fundamentals of the sport in an exciting and fun environment. The Prep training is preparing pupils for Junior and Senior basketball where training sessions are built around individual skill development and team game play.

The Prep School trains weekly. Years 5 and 6 compete in-house, while Years 7 and 8 committed players represent the School in tournaments.

“I have been coaching young players across the South West and continue to develop basketball to inspire the young players in the area.”

Technical and Competitive Game Strategy

Senior School pupils receive weekly training sessions. Small group and individual sessions ensure players improve and develop specific skills. Whereas timetabled games sessions develop technical and competitive game strategy. Experienced players have the opportunity to compete in highly competitive fixture cards on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons throughout the season.

Players have access to a VEO camera. Recordings from training sessions and fixtures are shared by the Coach, with specific clips breaking down and highlighting areas for individual and team improvements.

Touring is an important aspect of continuing not only the growth of basketball at Wycliffe but also player personal growth.
