Competitive Fixtures

Netball is the major game in the Spring term and offers a busy and competitive fixture card on Thursday and Sundays for the six junior and four senior teams. The highly competitive Friday night match against local opposition is always a highlight of the season.

Wycliffe’s onsite Sports academy training

The added benefit of hosting an onsite High Performance Academy and the Seven Stars Player Development Programme means that Netball Scholars are able to commit to the netball programme alongside the busy demands of a boarding School, both academic and extra curricular. As part of Wycliffe hosting the Severn Stars Nova Progamme, we also sponsor a player. Our sponsored Severn Stars linked player also  provides masterclasses to the Schools teams.

Opportunity to compete at regional and national level

Wycliffe’s first team compete in county tournaments for all ages and national schools magazines. This provides players with a great opportunity to compete on both a regional and national stage.

Netball tours are a vital part of a pupil’s personal development. Previous tours have visited Barbados, Cyprus, Dubai, Sri Lanka and local PGL weekends.

The Severn Stars Netball Franchise nurtures and develops talented netball players in a professional environment

Wycliffe College is a host venue for one of three Player Development Programmes (PDP) in the Severn Stars franchise region.  Lead by UKCC level 3 Head Coach and England Selector Gilly Salter and supported by UKCC Level 2 Assistant Coach Jen Usher and Team Manager Janey Garrard, we have a strong history of successful athletes progressing into the franchise and England pathway.

The PDP provides a high-performance training environment for players who have not made the elite U19/U17 squads yet show potential to progress.  Recognised as part of the England Netball Pathway it also provides opportunity for talented U15 players to join that could be selected to the U15 Severn Stars School Games squad.

Training for successful athletes is currently 3hrs on a Friday night, which includes Strength and Conditioning as well as Technical training.

As part of the Severn Stars franchise, Wycliffe College sponsors a current member of the elite senior squad.  Previous sponsored players included Paige Reed (England Futures squad and Fast5) and Ella Powell-Davies (Welsh international).  Both Paige and Ella have supported the school and franchise programmes as visiting coaches and role models.
