P R 2010 - 2017
Ryan Coombs (P R 2010 – 2017) – how a love of sport nurtured at school has given him a fresh challenge.
I attended Wycliffe from Year 7 to Year 13. One of the main reasons I joined was the sporting opportunities. I was part of Scott at the Prep School and Robinson in the Senior School. I was Prefect at the Prep School and Deputy Head in the Senior School.
I played Football to a high academy level and also played my fair share of Rugby and Cricket. I also received a Sports Scholarship for Sixth Form. I represented Wycliffe in many cross-country races and swimming galas and took part in biathles in which I came third in the county. The school gave me so many opportunities I will always be grateful for instilling the love of sport.
During my final year at Wycliffe I sustained a concussion injury. As a result, my A Levels did not quite go to plan which resulted in me taking a gap year to recover. About 18 months ago, I started to increase my working hours and I am now a trainee accountant at Smith Heath Accountants in Cheltenham.
Alongside this I have discovered a love for triathlon. I completed Ironman Wales (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle, 26.2 mile run) in September 2019 with a time of 12h 24s and came 6th in my age group.
During this year I have started to compete in many events and am climbing up the results boards. This included a qualifying event for 2020 European Standard Distance Triathlon Championships in Tartu, Estonia which will allow me to race for Team GB.
